Donaldsonville woman arrested for smuggling drugs into prison with child

GRANT PARISH, La. (WNTZ) – A Donaldsonville woman has been arrested after an investigation by the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office revealed she allegedly smuggled drugs into a federal prison while accompanied by a young child.

Deputies arrested 50-year-old Shannon Butler of Donaldsonville on multiple charges, including distribution of methamphetamine, distribution of synthetic marijuana, distribution of Suboxone, illegal use of drugs in the presence of a child, and taking contraband into a penal institution.

Authorities say the investigation determined Butler was involved in the illegal transport and distribution of narcotics intended for inmates.

The Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office did not release additional details about the ongoing investigation.
