Covington man found guilty of sexual battery, molestation of minor

COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) — A 40-year-old man was found guilty of oral sexual battery of a child under age 15 and molestation of a juvenile by a St. Tammany Parish jury on Thursday, Oct. 16, according to District Attorney Collin Sims.

Over the four-day trial, the jury was presented the case, which dated back to 2022.

According to Sims, a 13-year-old girl confided in a trusted adult that the defendant, Winston Bradford Patterson, had sexually assaulted and inappropriately touched her on numerous occasions.

Patterson’s sentencing is set for Monday, Nov. 17. According to Sims, the punishment for oral sexual battery is up to 10 years in prison without parole. In addition, the penalty for molestation of a juvenile is between five and 10 years in prison.

Based on Patterson’s prior drug-related convictions, the district attorney’s office reports that he will face an enhanced sentence.
