Morgantown consumes 60% more online videos than any other city in West Virginia, a new ranking by iSelect revealed. However, where most screen-addicted cities are spending their time watching politics, Morgantown residents are dedicating most of their screen time to sports by watching an average of 17 sports related videos per day. By comparison, other West Virginia cities with high screen times only watched one or two per day on average.
The ranking said that Morgantown residents watch about 33 videos per day; by comparison, the other top cities in West Virginia were Huntington with 20 videos per day and Charleston with 13 videos per day.
West Virginia’s top two cities were home of the state’s only Division I colleges, West Virginia University and Marshall University, but where Morgantown watches mostly sports, Huntington watches mostly politics, according to the ranking. Politics was also the most watched topic nationwide.
“High levels of screen time, especially on political content, can increase stress, disturb sleep, and contribute to anxiety,” Andres Gutierrez, General Manager of Health at iSelect, said in a press release.
TV & Entertainment, Finance, AI & Technology, and Health & Fitness were other top doom-scrolling topics, the rankings said.
