One dead, one in custody after shooting Sunday night in Smiths Station
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of gunfire at the mobile home park, where a 34-year-old man was found suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, Anthony Levi Hodge, of Smiths Station, was pronounced dead at 7:35 p.m. CT Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025, at Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital from an apparent gunshot wound according to Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton.
Hodge’s body will be transported by the Lee County Coroner’s Office to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem examination.
Shortly after the shooting, deputies located a second scene near Terry’s Grocery, just less than a mile away. A heavy law enforcement presence surrounded a white pickup truck in the store’s parking lot, and a person of interest was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators believe the two scenes are connected and say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
