Suspect in custody in connection to Jefferson County shooting that left 4 injured, including 2 teenagers
Palmerdale Fire District Captain J. Bruce stated that Palmerdale and Center Point Fire personnel responded to a reported shooting at around 12:30 a.m. in the woods near Highway 75. According to Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Pettway, this is a location where young people gather and have bonfires.
According to Bruce, the scene was secured by the JCSO.
The JCSO stated that three gunshot victims, a 21-year-old male, an 18-year-old male and an 18-year-old female, were found at the scene. The victims were transported to area hospitals. Deputies learned that a 20-year-old female victim was also injured and taken to an area hospital by a personal vehicle.
Christy Kaye Mills Hollis says her niece, 18-year-old Kimber Mills, was one of the victims. According to Hollis, her niece, who is a senior cheerleader at Cleveland High School, is in critical condition after being shot in the head and the leg. She says the family is asking for prayers right now for Mills.
According to the JSCO, the preliminary investigation indicated that the gunfire resulted from a verbal and physical altercation.
According to Pettway, a male suspect was taken into custody in connection to the shooting. The suspect is being held at the Jefferson County Jail with no bond. Additional charges are pending.
