IMPD: Man shot during disturbance at ex-girlfriend's home
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 4100 block of South Rybolt Avenue — which is located near Buffer Park Golf Course and the White River — around 8:40 p.m. to investigate a shooting. When police arrived at the scene, they located an adult male with one apparent gunshot wound.
Law enforcement rendered medical aid to the victim until EMS personnel made it to the area. Medics then transported the man from the scene to a local hospital in critical condition.
IMPD indicated that it has detained the alleged shooter involved in the incident.
Police reported that the suspect was inside a mobile home when they arrived at the scene. Officers surrounded the home before taking the suspect into custody.
Upon further investigation of the incident, police determined the victim showed up at his ex-girlfriend’s house before the shooting occurred. The victim then got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend.
During that dispute, shots were fired, and the victim was injured.
Police believe they detained the only person who fired shots during the incident. IMPD identified the detainee as an adult male.
“If you’re gonna go get into a disturbance, it’s probably a good idea to not bring a weapon because, No. 1, things can get heated,” IMPD Night Watch Captain John Arvin said during a media briefing. “And No. 2, you don’t know who else has a weapon. So, like this incident tonight, it ended up blowing up and it probably shouldn’t have.”
