Meta, the giant tech company that owns major social media sites Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has bought more land in Rosemount.
Real estate certificate filings show that Jimnist, another company owned by Meta, bought a 14-acre plot of land last week for $5 million.
The location is just off Blaine Avenue East near 145th Street, right next to other land it had already purchased.
Back in 2023, the company spent nearly $40 million to buy 280 acres of the University of Minnesota’s UMore Park. The company later announced plans to build an $800 million, 715,000 square foot data center on that site.

Then, earlier this year, Jimnist gobbled up approximately 200 additional acres in the area for $70 million.
The latest purchase expands the company’s real estate holdings in the area, although it’s not yet clear what it will be used for.
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has reached out to Meta and Rosemount for any information on what is planned for the land, and will update this story if a response is received.
When its data center is complete, Meta says it will employ around 100 people, adding that construction of the project will support 1,000 trade jobs at its peak.
