Docs: Convicted killer threatens man via text following release from prison

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. — A Zionsville man who served 20 years in prison for killing a Lebanon man in 2002 has been charged after he threatened an individual and his family multiple times over text.

According to court documents, Christopher Showalter has been charged with four counts of intimidation, each a Level 6 felony, in Boone County.

This comes after Showalter pleaded guilty to murder in Boone County in 2004. According to reports from the IndyStar, Showalter killed Michael Krumwiede following an argument at a party in August 2002. Showalter was released in November 2024, having served 20 years in prison.

The documents stated that following his release from prison, Showalter was staying at a home. In late August, officials said that Showalter was having some issues with the homeowner, who ultimately told Showalter to move out.

After Showalter moved out, he reportedly texted the homeowner, stating that he “might kill him” and his grandkids. Showalter also threatened to rape other family members of the homeowner.

“Call the police b—-,” one of the texts read. “I’m not threatening your family. I will rape your (relative).”

For this particular case, court officials set bond for Showalter at $1,000 cash on Oct. 7. A pretrial conference is scheduled for Nov. 19 and a jury trial is scheduled for Jan. 27, 2026.

A hearing on the probation violation related to Showalter’s murder conviction is scheduled for Feb. 17, 2026, according to court documents.
