West Virginia AARP and the West Virginia Secretary of State’s business division hosted “Operation Scam Jam” Thursday which gives the public tips on how to avoid being scammed.
Organizers said with both Medicare enrollment season and the holidays coming up, it’s important to know how to spot potential scams.
“It’s Medicare enrollment season. It started yesterday, so folks are going to get a lot of phone calls, a lot of things in the mail,” said Jane Marks, AARP WV Volunteer State President. “So they need to be very careful about that and ensure that the person they’re talking to on the phone is really from who they say they are. In fact, it’s probably better not to have those conversations on the phone at all.”
The workshop equips members of the public with up-to-date insights, alerts and fraud prevention resources to protect themselves, their business and their loved ones.
