The ‘Hawks were picked sixth in the Big 12 preseason coaches’ poll, with junior guard S’Mya Nichols earning a Preseason All-Big 12 selection for the second consecutive season.
Kansas returns seven players and adds five newcomers to the roster this season. One of those newcomers being former five-star prospect Jaliya Davis.
The Overland Park native joins Nichols and two other ‘Hawks as players with Kansas roots.
“She has a plan the minute she walks into the gym, as to what she wants to get accomplished in what we call pre-practice,” Kansas women’s basketball head coach Brandon Schneider said. “That is very rare for a young player to walk in and immediately get to work.”
The 6’2 freshman forward has a work ethic that Nichols said is amazing.
“She does not look like a freshman out there and we don’t treat her like one,” Nichols said.
