Kansas women’s basketball excited about new playmakers

LAWRENCE (KSNT) – The Kansas women’s basketball team opens its season in less than a month in an exhibition game against Fort Hays State on Oct. 29 inside Allen Fieldhouse.

The ‘Hawks were picked sixth in the Big 12 preseason coaches’ poll, with junior guard S’Mya Nichols earning a Preseason All-Big 12 selection for the second consecutive season.

Kansas returns seven players and adds five newcomers to the roster this season. One of those newcomers being former five-star prospect Jaliya Davis.

The Overland Park native joins Nichols and two other ‘Hawks as players with Kansas roots.

“She has a plan the minute she walks into the gym, as to what she wants to get accomplished in what we call pre-practice,” Kansas women’s basketball head coach Brandon Schneider said. “That is very rare for a young player to walk in and immediately get to work.”

The 6’2 freshman forward has a work ethic that Nichols said is amazing.

“She does not look like a freshman out there and we don’t treat her like one,” Nichols said.
