SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — The Shreveport Police Department is warning the public about phone scams.

The SPD has reported a rise in cases of individuals impersonating police officers, sheriff’s deputies, jailers, and federal agents from the FBI. According to the police, these scammers often tell victims that they must make a payment to avoid arrest or to clear a warrant.

Shreveport Police want to make it clear that the department will never call someone by phone to request or demand money.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a police officer or other law enforcement official asking for money, hang up and contact your local law enforcement.
