Listen live: Supreme Court hears arguments in Voting Rights Act case
The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on Wednesday in Louisiana v. Callais, a challenge to the state’s congressional map that could shape the fight over the Voting Rights Act.

The court heard arguments over Louisiana’s addition of a second majority-Black congressional district last term but in June said it would hear a new round. This time, the arguments will focus on whether race-based redistricting under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act is still constitutional.

The battle over the state’s congressional maps has been waged for half a decade.

Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh are expected to be key figures in the case, according to SCOTUS Blog, as they joined the majority two years in a high-profile case regarding Alabama’s congressional map.

The Louisiana case is among at least three election-related cases coming before the Supreme Court this term.
