Woman Dies After Parking Garage Crash at Graduate Hotel
Staff report
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — October 12, 2025 — An 80-year-old woman died after a crash in the parking garage of the Graduate Hotel in downtown Bloomington, according to the Bloomington Police Department.
Police said officers were called to the scene around 11:40 a.m. Sunday after an 84-year-old man from Fairfax, Virginia, lost control of a rented silver 2025 Hyundai Kona. The driver told officers he was unfamiliar with the rental vehicle and had taken his foot off the brake while descending the steep driveway into the garage.
The vehicle, traveling east, struck a gate and a concrete wall, becoming wedged between the two. The crash triggered the airbags, and all four occupants were transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Three of the passengers, including the driver, suffered minor injuries such as bruising and abrasions. However, the driver’s 80-year-old wife sustained a neck fracture. Police said they were notified around 6 p.m. that she had died from her injuries.
The crash occurred at the entrance to the garage off South Lincoln Street.
The official cause of death will need to be confirmed with the Monroe County coroner.
