The Arkansas Mobile ID, a digital driver’s license, was launched in March and is free to anyone with an Arkansas driver’s license or state-issued ID.
It is a contactless, secure, state-approved credential that can be used at participating businesses and venues, the department previously said.
A department spokesperson said that since its launch, around 40,000 Arkansans have downloaded the app.
The department says that the Mobile ID is expected to be available for Apple Wallet sometime next year.
In August, state officials said an Arkansas Mobile ID could be used at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints instead of a physical license or ID. The Mobile ID can also be shown instead of a boarding pass.
