16-year-old arrested, accused of shooting during LSU homecoming

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested a 16-year-old who was accused of a shooting at LSU on Saturday.

According to officials, the teen was arrested after a shooting in the 3400 block of Highland Road, on LSU’s campus, during the university’s homecoming game against South Carolina. The shooting left two people injured, officials say.

Police say the shooting stemmed from an altercation between the involved parties.

The 16-year-old was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center on charges of two counts of attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, illegal possession of a weapon by a juvenile, and carrying a firearm on school property.

“Special thanks to the Baton Rouge community and to Capital Region Crime Stoppers, who were instrumental in providing information that led to this arrest,” the police said in a statement.

This is an ongoing investigation.
