Woman kidnapped by 3 men in San Rafael rescued: SRPD
Around 9:45 p.m. on October 11, a woman called 911 reporting that she had been kidnapped and was being driven to an unknown location, police said.
“Dispatchers used GPS information and determined the victim was on Robert Dollar Drive in San Rafael. The victim reported that the three suspects in the vehicle were doing drugs and that one of them possessed a knife,” the San Rafael Police Department wrote.
An officer immediately responded and found the victim screaming for help outside of the car, SRPD said. The kidnapping suspects attempted to flee by driving away from the scene. However, backup officers stopped their car a few blocks away.
The three men arrested were identified by police as: Sergio Godinez-Lopez, 24, Christopher Moneroso, 21, and Jonathan Valenzuela-Castro, 21.
Photographs released by police show a gun, knife, and alcohol found inside the car. “Valenzuela-Castro was found to have a concealed and loaded handgun,” SRPD wrote.
Investigators said they determined that the victim and three men used an app to arranged meeting in San Rafael’s Canal neighborhood.
“Once the suspects picked up the victim, they decided to change the plans, and the victim asked to be let go. The suspects refused and drove the victim to the open space area of Robert Dollar Drive. The suspects initially prevented the victim from fleeing and, at one point, threatened her with a knife. The victim called 9-1-1 and eventually escaped,” the police department wrote.
The trio was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of the following crimes:
Valenzuela-Castro, of San Rafael, was booked for kidnapping, conspiracy, assault with the intent to commit rape, carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, possessing an unregistered firearm, and possession of a large capacity ammunition magazine.
Godinez-Lopez, of Vallejo, was booked for kidnapping, conspiracy, and drug possession.
Monteroso, of San Rafael, was booked for kidnapping, conspiracy, assault with a knife, and making criminal threats.
Anyone with additional information about this crime is asked to call the San Rafael Police Department at 415-485-3000.
