Pedestrian killed after being struck by car in Hammond

HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on Interstate 12 in the early morning of Monday, Oct. 13.

Around 1:20 a.m., troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Interstate 12 near Louisiana Highway 1249, according to the LSP. Based on a preliminary investigation, it was disclosed that a 2019 Honda Accord traveled westbound on Interstate 12 in the left lane while a pedestrian was also traveling in the same direction at the same time.

According to the LSP, the Honda struck the pedestrian in the road and the pedestrian, 24-year-old Dentreal A. Mouton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda Accord was properly restrained and uninjured in the crash. According to the LSP, toxicology samples were collected from the driver and Mouton.
