KU basketball tabbed No. 19 in AP Preseason Poll

LAWRENCE (KSNT) – Kansas basketball checks in at No. 19 in the AP Preseason Poll released on Monday. 

The Jayhawks are ranked in the AP Preseason Poll for the 34th consecutive season. 

Despite the ranking, it’s the lowest for the Jayhawks in the poll since the 2008-09 season when KU started at No. 19.

Anticipation is high in Lawrence entering the season. Bill Self welcomes eight new players to the ‘Hawks roster this year including freshman Darryn Peterson, the top-rated recruit in the nation.

Peterson is the third No. 1 ranked national recruit to play for Self at Kansas, joining Andrew Wiggins and Josh Jackson.

The Jayhawks will also welcome four upperclassmen transfersMelvin Council Jr. (St. Bonaventure), Jayden Dawson (Loyola-Chicago), Nginyu “Gee” Ngala (International), and Tre White (Illinois).

The Jayhawks finished 21-13 (11-9 Big 12) last season. Kansas was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by 10th-seeded Arkansas. 

Kansas will host ‘Late Night in the Phog’ on Friday, where fans will get a look at both the men’s and women’s rosters for the 2025-26 season.
