Investigators said the fire’s flames touched four homes over the weekend. What exactly caused the fire is unclear.
The smell of smoke lingered in the air of the Heartland Crossing neighborhood on Monday after a fire early Sunday morning. Kristina Lynch, whose house was one of those that was damaged, said she considers herself one of the lucky ones
“I’m just happy we have our house because we had nine people in our house that night and a lot of animals,” said Lynch.
According to the Madison Township Fire Department, the fire broke out at about 4 a.m. It started two doors down from Lynch’s home on Cardonia Drive. After an explosion, the fire spread to the three other houses.
“As the nosey neighbor, I looked outside and I saw that it was pretty close to my house, so I’m like ‘oh shoot’,” said Lynch. “We checked to see what’s going on, make sure everybody is okay. It’s popping, it’s going crazy, so then we evacuated the house and got everybody out.”
Fire investigators were back on scene Monday morning. The fire has been labeled suspicious, but isolated. Fire officials say no one was injured. However, neighbors who didn’t want to go on camera said they saw someone on fire.
“It was pretty hard to sleep. I checked the cameras all night, and they stopped working, so they have to come out to reset them,” said Lynch.
Lynch is now in the process of contacting her insurance company. However, after living in this neighborhood for six years, she said she is questioning whether she still wants to call this neighborhood home
“I’m ready to move because, sadly, it’s everywhere,” she said. “But it’s just getting too close to home and I love our house.”
ATF and local fire crews are now investigating the cause of the fire.
