Madison Township Fire Dept. investigates ‘suspicious’ house fire in Camby

CAMBY, Ind. — A house fire that occurred early Sunday morning is under investigation in Camby, according to officials, who stated that it appeared to be “suspicious in nature.”

According to a news release from the Madison Township Fire Department, crews from multiple agencies were dispatched to a home in the 13000 block of Cardonia Drive on a report of a fire at around 4:04 a.m. on Sunday.

When the first engine arrived on scene, one home was found on fire with “heavy involvement at the front.” The release said that the heavy fire, as well as an explosion, quickly spread the fire to adjacent homes.

Ultimately, the fire heavily damaged two homes, as well as sustained moderate damage to two additional homes. The fire was marked under control around 4:50 a.m. No injuries were reported and everyone was able to evacuate their homes.

“This fire does appear to be suspicious in nature, but it does appear to be an isolated event,” the release said. “…There is no threat to the community.”

Officials said that officials with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were on scene with a certified fire investigator to assist with the investigation. Individuals who live in the area are being asked to check for cameras for anything that occurred around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Zach Dodson with Morgan County at (765) 342-5544 or by email at zdodson@morgancounty.in.gov.
