CHICAGO — A 23-year-old man was shot and killed during an argument overnight in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the city’s Southwest Side, according to Chicago police.

Police say the man was in the backyard of a residence in the 6400 block of South Fairfield Avenue around 2:15 a.m. Sunday when he got into an argument with a 26-year-old man. The argument became physical, police say, and the 26-year-old man pulled out a gun and shot the 23-year-old in the chest.

The victim was treated by the Chicago Fire Department and taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police say arriving officers were able to place a person in custody.

Police say charges are pending and area detectives are investigating.
