Fandal won the race with 71.79% of the votes while Borchert received 28.21% of the votes. Fandal received 3,489 votes while Borchert received 1,371 votes.
According to Fandal’s campaign website, he attended Slidell High School and went on to graduate from the Louisiana State Police Acadamy in 1990. He has served for 45 years in law enforcement, working as a patrolman, detective and EMT. He has served as the Chief of Police for Slidell since 2016.
