Two teens killed after Madison County chase ends in crash

MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The Madison County Coroner’s Office identified one of the two teenagers who were killed after a chase ended in a crash.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), the crash occurred on Interstate 55 northbound near the 119-mile marker on September 29, 2025.

Gluckstadt police said they were notified about a stolen silver Ford Escape that was traveling north on the interstate. Officers located the vehicle near the 112-mile marker and attempted to stop it. Police said the driver refused to stop and led officers on a chase.

Investigators said the suspect’s vehicle left the road and struck a signage pole just before the Exit 119 ramp. They said both the driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle.

Chief Deputy Coroner Joel Shows said Laqaughn Johnson, 18, died at the scene. The second victim, a 16-year-old male from Jackson, died while being transported to UMMC Madison.

During the incident, police said one of their officers was involved in a separate accident while trying to avoid an object in the roadway. Both the officer and the other driver were unharmed.
