According to Utah Fire Info, the Wildcat Fire is 10 acres in size, and it is burning in Fishlake National Forest in “challenging, inaccessible terrain.” The cause is still under investigation and has not been determined yet.
Local fire engines and initial attack resources are already on scene.
Smoke may be visible from I-70 and I-15, so if you see smoke, Utah Fire Info is asking that you do not report it because they are aware of the fire.
Other large wildfires burning in Utah right now are the Buckley Draw Fire, which is estimated at 424 acres in size and 95% containment, the Cherry Fire, at 100% containment and 540 acres in size, and the Blue Creek Fire, at 75 acres and 0% containment.
The Cherry Fire was discovered on October 7, and it was originally estimated to be 0.10 acres in size. Over the past two days, it has grown to 75 acres in size. It is also in difficult to access terrain, about a five-mile hike to reach it in Zion National Park.
This weekend, heavy rain is expected in Southern Utah, prompting counties to prepare for flash flooding through Saturday.
