Arkansas Department of Transportation announces $20M in grants for ‘transportation alternatives’

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — More than $20 million has been awarded dozens of projects across the Natural State for “transportation alternative” projects, the Arkansas Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday.

ARDOT said in a news release that 67 projects were awarded grants as part of the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and Recreational Trails Program (RTP).

ARDOT said the TAP provides funding for programs and projects defined as “transportation alternatives” for pedestrians, bicyclists and other non-motorized forms of transportation.

Eligible projects include construction of on-road and off-road trail facilities that include sidewalks, bicycle infrastructure, pedestrian and bicycle signals, lighting and other safety-related infrastructure.
