ARDOT opens applications for Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails grants

The Arkansas State Highway Commission has opened applications for the Arkansas Transportation Alternatives Program and the Arkansas Recreational Trails Program, offering federal grant funding to local public agencies for transportation and recreation projects.
Both programs operate on a reimbursable basis and fund projects focused on pedestrian, bicycle and trail infrastructure. The funding cannot be used for highway improvements.

Eligible Transportation Alternatives projects include sidewalks, bicycle infrastructure, pedestrian crossings, lighting, traffic calming measures, Safe Routes to School projects and environmental mitigation efforts. Non-infrastructure efforts such as public awareness campaigns, pedestrian and bicycle education programs and trail master plans are also eligible.

Recreational Trails Program funding may be used for improvements to motorized and non-motorized trails, trailhead facilities and trail linkages.

Virtual seminars explaining program requirements will be held Feb. 12 and Feb. 24.

Applications and project guidelines are available at ardot.gov/TAP and ardot.gov/RTP. Applications must be submitted by 4 on April 30.

ARDOT also continues to accept applications year-round for Motorized RTP projects, which are reviewed in the order they are received.
