'Mason loved camping trips': Family identifies teen shot and killed near Ben Lomond High
On Tuesday, a 16-year-old was shot and killed near 5th and Grammercy Avenue in Ogden, Utah. Ogden City Police Investigators and Homicide Task Force responded to the scene.
According to a GoFundMe posted by the family, they say “Mason Caballero was a hardworking, funny young man with the biggest heart. He cherished his family deeply, especially his little brother Kashton, who looked up to him in every way. Mason loved camping trips with his grandparents, shopping with his mom, and working alongside his dad.”
The GoFundMe shared that Caballero’s passing has left a profound impact on the family. His brother lost his best friend and role model, and his grandparents, parents, and siblings are all grieving the loss.
The funds received will be used to cover funeral expenses, the family confirmed.
Police first received the call that Caballero was shot at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Caballero was taken to Ben Lomond High School, where he was treated by school staff and school resource officers who were still in the building.
No suspect is in custody for the shooting, and police have requested anyone with information about the case to contact police dispatch at 801-395-8221. He also asked for anyone who lives in the area to check their doorbell or security cameras.
