Golden Valley interim police chief named

Following the resignation of their previous police chief over multiple investigations, the City of Golden Valley has chosen a temporary leader for its police department.

On Tuesday, Matt Clark was announced as the interim leader for the Golden Valley Police Department.

The news comes after former Chief Virgil Green resigned last week after spending months on paid administrative leave due to multiple misconduct allegations.

Clark will serve as department director starting on Friday and will transition to interim police chief upon completing his pre-employment POST requirements.

The city says Clark began his law enforcement career in 1991 and has served in five police agencies in Minnesota. He spent 22 years with the Minneapolis Police Department, including three years as Assistant Chief of Police.

Clark also served as chief of police for the University of Minnesota Police Department for nearly 10 years before retiring in May.

“We look forward to working with Mr Clark, providing support and stability for staff and community, and leading a thorough police chief search process in the coming months,” said City Manager Noah Schuchman. The City will release a request for proposals (RFP) by Monday, Oct 13, seeking an executive search firm to lead the recruitment process for a new chief. “We intend to have selected a search firm, gathered appropriate input from stakeholders, and posted the police chief position before the end of the year,” said Schuchman.
