Bicyclist critically injured in crash in northwest suburbs
According to officials from the Cary Fire Protection District, the crash unfolded around 5:45 p.m. in the 6500 block of Silver Lake Road in unincorporated McHenry County.
Crews were initially called to the scene following a report of a crash involving a vehicle in the area, but when they arrived on the scene, they found an adult male bicyclist lying in the roadway.
Officials said the man was involved in a crash with a small sedan and had sustained critical injuries.
Crews quickly began life-saving measures before the man was taken to the nearby hospital, where he was then flown to a hospital in Libertyville by helicopter.
The driver of the sedan involved was not injured, and it remains unclear what led to the crash.
Crews closed the road overnight for the investigation, but all lanes have since reopened.
