Online flyers indicated a party guarded with a heavy police presence would take place tonight at A.B Palmer Park; however, around 7 p.m., the family-oriented function that boasted free food and entertainment had more than 15 emergency units dispatched after reports of shots fired.
At this time, one teen has been reported dead.
According to the police, two individuals were believed to be exchanging gunfire in the park.
“We know the individuals who were involved, and we have video of the incident. We will be searching for the individuals,” Corporal Chris Bordelon, the public information officer with Shreveport Police Department, warns that those responsible should turn themselves in to avoid further escalating the incident.
The event was taking place as the rest of the city was celebrating National Night Out.
Although the flyer displayed the official emblem, the department says the event was not approved or associated with National Night Out.
No further details have been released at this time.
Anyone with additional information is encouraged to come forward.
This is a developing story.
