Two people pronounced dead in train-car crash after driver ignores crossbars

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – An early Monday train-car crash in Shreveport resulted in the deaths of two people and their pet.

The incident occurred on Oct. 6, 2025, at approximately 2:09 a.m.

Police say the crash on East 85th Street near Fairfield Ave. prompted an immediate response from both the Shreveport Police and Fire departments.

First responders arrived at the scene to find that the driver and one rear passenger had fatal injuries and were pronounced dead. Their dog was also found dead in the crash.

According to initial investigations by the Shreveport Police Crash Investigations Unit, the maroon Nissan Armada was traveling eastbound on East 85th Street when it reportedly drove around the lowered warning arm at the railroad crossing while the red warning lights were flashing.

As the car crossed the tracks, it was struck on the driver’s side by a freight train.

The force of the collision caused the car to overturn, ejecting passengers before it came to a stop.

A third occupant was later located at a family member’s residence and confirmed he had been riding in the front passenger seat at the time of the crash.

This individual stated that the driver had ignored the warning signals before the train struck the vehicle. He was then transported to Ochsner LSU Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

The circumstances of the crash remain under active investigation.
