Public hearing set for Sunflower Crossing Redevelopment District

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Topeka City Council voted to approve the Nov. 12 date for a public hearing to consider the establishment of a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Redevelopment District for the northwest quadrant of Topeka Boulevard and Kansas Avenue.

This TIF project’s purpose is to promote the redevelopment and revitalization of a commercial development of approximately 9.12 acres located at the northwest quadrant of Topeka Boulevard and Kansas Avenue. BHI Development wants to turn the currently empty plot of land into businesses including a retail store and sit-down restaurant in addition to Topeka’s first Quick Trip.

Taxes and other revenue collected from the area over the next two decades would reimburse some of the up-front construction costs. The public hearing is set to allow for public comment on the project.
