Two deputies injured in Iberville Parish courthouse shooting

BATON ROUGE, La. (LouisianaFirst) – Two Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Deputies were injured in a shooting Monday night.

The shooting happened at the Iberville Parish Courthouse.

According to the Louisiana Attorney General, one of the deputies shot is the son of Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi.

“I have spoken to Sheriff Stassi. His son is currently stable but not out of the woods. Another deputy is fighting for his life. He asks for your prayers for these brave officers. These deputies put their lives on the line for us – please pray for them now”, said Attorney General Liz Murrill.

The Iberville Parish Government posted this statement on its Facebook page.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the sheriff’s deputies involved in the tragic shooting at the Iberville Parish Courthouse. We stand with their families and the entire law enforcement community during this difficult time.”

It’s unclear what led to the shooting and the suspect who was involved.

Louisiana First News has a crew headed to the scene. As more information becomes available, we’ll share it with you.
