BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A former nursing assistant who worked at a Baton Rouge nursing home was indicted by a grand jury on a charge of negligent homicide.
The grand jury met on Thursday, Oct. 2, following an investigation by Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
Diamond Johnson, 34, of Zachary, was an employee at Jefferson Manor when she attempted to lift a patient to a bed from a chair using a hydraulic lift on June 14, 2024. According to Murrill’s office, the patient slipped out of the side of the sling and was unresponsive for 40 minutes after falling.

An autopsy found that the cause of death was due to complications of blunt force injuries from the fall.
Johnson was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill released this statement after the indictment.
“These cases are very difficult, but my job as Attorney General is to protect the citizens of this state; especially those who can’t protect themselves. As to the facts of this case, the grand jury felt, as we did, that Ms. Johnson was negligent in the care she provided to the victim, who unfortunately lost her life as a result of that negligence.”
