Boy killed in Greenbelt shooting, police investigating

GREENBELT, Md. (DC News Now) — The Greenbelt Police Department is investigating after a boy was shot and killed Sunday.

Police said officers responded at 1:45 p.m. to reports of a shooting at the Franklin Park Apartments.

There, the boy was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to police, an initial investigation determined that a silver Infiniti with dark-tinted windows sped into the area. Someone in the vehicle then began firing multiple rounds into a group, striking the boy before driving away.

Police have provided a picture of the suspect’s vehicle as seen below:

“I was in my car and I heard gunshots,” described Adriana Santana, who has only lived at the apartment complex for a few months.

Sunday’s shooting of the unidentified juvenile left her shaken,

“It’s crazy, it’s crazy,” Santana said.

Two bullets struck one parked car, while another went through the window of a parked SUV.

“It’s so scary. It’s so scary,” said Rahel Sarota has lived in the apartment complex for two years.

The shooting is the latest in what neighbors describe as ongoing violence at Franklin Park Apartments.

“I really don’t know what you can do. It’s so scary for the people who live around here,” Sarota explained. “It’s happening every day. Now it’s a big everyday issue.”

Another shooting claimed the life of another person at the apartment complex Saturday night. Police can’t say if the two are related.

Anyone with information is asked to call (301) 474-7200.
