Suspect lunged at victim with machete near BART path: El Cerrito PD
Officers arrived at the incident location around 7:20 a.m. and soon “determined the victim was walking back to their encampment when the subject lunged at the victim with the machete,” said police.
Police said two suspects were later located and detained after being identified by the victim.
The suspected machete used in the incident was recovered along with some of the victim’s belongings, according to police.
There were no reports of any injuries.
The person believed to be behind the assault was taken to the Martinez Detention Facility. Police said they face several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and petty theft.
Police said the other individual involved had a warrant for their arrest and was released on a citation.
It is not clear what led to the incident or if it was a random attack.
