Shreveport Police Investigating Inmate Death After Hospital Transfer

Shreveport, LA — The Shreveport Police Department has opened an investigation following the death of a female inmate who passed away Friday, October 3, after being transferred to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Officials confirmed the woman was originally arrested on September 20, 2025, on a misdemeanor charge of Entering and Remaining After Forbidden. Nearly two weeks later, on October 2, she was moved from the Shreveport City Jail to Ochsner LSU Health for a precautionary medical evaluation in accordance with infectious disease protocols.

Authorities reported that after arriving at the hospital, the inmate’s health rapidly declined. Despite intervention by medical staff, her condition worsened and she died the following day. Police described the incident as a “catastrophic medical event,” though further details remain under review.

Detectives with the Investigations Division are now examining all aspects of the case, including medical records, custody procedures, and the timeline of events. Investigators stressed that no conclusions will be made until all evidence is collected.
