PLEASANT GROVE, Utah (
ABC4) — A 6-year-old child is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle Friday evening.
According to the Pleasant Grove Police Department, officers were dispatched to a call of an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near 1580 west and 3300 north in Pleasant Grove shortly before 5 p.m. on Friday evening.
When they arrived, they found that an SUV had struck a child, identified only as a 6-year-old. Officers performed life saving measures on the child on the scene of the accident.
The 6-year-old was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where they were then life-flighted to Primary Children’s Hospital. According to Lieutenant Derek Shumway with the Pleasant Grove Police Department, the child is still in critical condition at the hospital.
The driver of the SUV remained on scene and is reportedly cooperating with investigators. Additionally, the road was closed for several hours while officers conducted their investigation.
While the investigation is still preliminary and ongoing, Lt. Shumway says that they do not believe that impairment was a factor in this incident.
