SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — The theft of a NOLA EMS ambulance Thursday night, reportedly sent two people to the hospital and one person to jail.

In a post to Facebook, NOLA EMS officials stated that at 9:15 p.m. on Oct. 2, the ambulance was stolen from the 5900 block of Read Boulevard in New Orleans East.

The driver reportedly sped off leading Slidell Police Department, Louisiana State Police and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office on a pursuit towards Slidell.

In an attempt to stop the ambulance, spike strips were deployed to slow the vehicle down.

Officers said the suspect allegedly ran a red light and crashed into an SUV at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Pearl Acres. The St. Tammany Fire District 1 officials rescued the SUV’s driver and passenger with EMS taking them to University Medical Center for treatment.

The suspect was taken into custody after the crash.
