WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (
ABC4) — A motorcyclist is seriously injured after a collision with a passenger car near 5600 west and 3500 south in West Valley City.
According to the West Valley City Police Department, crews were dispatched to a call of a motorcycle crash at a Walmart near 3100 South. When they arrived, they found that a passenger car had collided with a motorcyclist.
The passenger car was in the left-hand turn lane going northbound and made a U-turn in front of the motorcyclist, who was traveling southbound on 5600 west, leading to a collision.
Law enforcement has confirmed that the motorcyclist, who has been identified as a 29-year-old male, was transported to the hospital in serious condition. At this time, he is still in the hospital.
Due to the severity of the crash, a major crash response team is on scene and investigating and lane closures are in effect in the area. Initial estimates say the roads may not be cleared until 12 a.m. or 1 a.m.
The driver of the passenger car stayed on scene and is reportedly cooperating with law enforcement. Additionally, while the investigation is still ongoing, law enforcement has said they do not believe that impairment or speed were factors in this crash.
