DMV Download | Oktoberfest at the Wharf, Cox Farms,DC Theatre Week, more

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Looking for things to do across the DMV on a budget and don’t know how to spend your days off? Or are you new to the area? Well, you’re in luck.

In DC News Now’s DMV Download, hosts Kaitlyn Dillon and Makayla Jennings explore upcoming events and hidden gems across D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

Oktoberfest at the Wharf 

  • Takes place Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Wharf from 2 to 7 p.m.
  • Through 5 p.m., watch the 13th Annual Wiener 500 Dachshund Dash race
  • Starting at 4 p.m., learn how to polka dance on the pier from traditional German dance professionals
  • Wear your dirndl or lederhosen and Oktoberfest gear to compete for the best-dressed polka dancer award
  • Free admission

Cox Farms

  • Located at 15621 Braddock Rd, Centreville, Va., and runs through Nov. 8
  • The Fall Festival is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and filled with family-friendly events, including slides, swings, hayrides and more.
  • Pumpkins and apples are available for sale, but there is no orchard to pick your own
  • Fields of Fear is open Friday and Saturday nights through Saturday, Nov. 8 (plus a bonus night on Sunday, Oct. 12), open from 7:30 p.m. – 11 p.m.; last entry is at 10 p.m.
  • Fields of Fear tickets can only be purchased online

Marksoff Haunted Forest 

  • Opens at 6:30 p.m. and runs through Saturday, Nov. 1. Located on Martinsburg Road in Dickerson, Md.
  • Features two haunts: The Trail, which contains a castle, gargoyles, and a haunted school bus. The Town, which includes a wagon ride where you get up close and personal with the zombies in “Onsalught Mills”
  • The waiting area is carnival-themed, where you can buy food and drinks as you wait
  • Trail ranges from $40-$50, depending on the day, and the town is $30-$40, with combo prices ranging from $65-$80.
  • The trail is not recommended for kids under 12
