CHICAGO (WGN) — The head of the Chicago police union says he is taking a leave of absence from his post as vice president of the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police

John Catanzara said he made the decision but wouldn’t reveal the reason, beyond calling it a “political witch hunt” by people who want his seat.

Records reviewed by WGN Investigates show that unspecified allegations were made against Catanzara by another member of the state lodge’s board.

Catanzara will remain as head of the union that represents rank-and-file Chicago police officers.
