AVOYELLES PARISH, La. (WNTZ) – A 13-year-old has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of terrorizing after confessing to making social media threats that prompted a swift law enforcement response and heightened concern across Avoyelles Parish, authorities said Tuesday night.

According to Sheriff David L. Dauzat, the juvenile, in guardian accompaniment, was taken into custody late Tuesday and is cooperating with investigators. The suspect has confessed to the crime and faces four counts of terrorizing. The juvenile will be processed through the juvenile justice system.

Authorities began investigating Tuesday evening after a threatening social media post circulated within the community. The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) worked closely with the Avoyelles Parish School Board, the Louisiana State Police, and other agencies to track down the source of the threat and ensure student safety.

“I want to thank all of our community and law enforcement partners, including the Louisiana State Police and Moreauville Police Department, for their swift response,” Dauzat said. “I especially want to thank the vigilant citizens of Avoyelles Parish. This is a perfect example of what ‘if you see something, say something’ can accomplish. Your tips were crucial.”
