Wheel comes off vehicle, causing crash in Stillman Valley

STILLMAN VALLEY, Ill. (WTVO) — A 16-year-old driver from Davis Junction swerved to avoid a tire that had come off a truck, and crashed into a fence and trees, resulting in unknown injuries.

According to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, Anthony Stowe, 36, of Monroe Center, was driving a black 2008 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound in the 6500 block of E IL Route 72, when the front driver’s side wheel came off.

A 16-year-old driver from Davis Junction, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu westbound, swerved to avoid the tire, and swerved off the road and crashed into a fence and several trees before coming to stop in a harvested corn field.

The teen was taken to a Rockford hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and no citations were issued, police said.
