The Mudbugs have picked up three wins so far this season, getting back on track this past weekend in Minneapolis. But the team has allowed its opponents to score at least three goals in every game but two.
Head coach Jason Campbell wants more from the defense.
“We need to tighten it up,” Campbell said. “I feel like we should be able to win games 1-0, 2-1, 3-2. I don’t like giving up any more than two goals if we don’t have to.”
It’s not just about playing better defensively, but opening up opportunities on offense as well.
“I think as long as our goaltenders are on point, we should be on point in front of them and try to try to keep the pucks away from them as much as possible,” Campbell said. “I’d like to see us play more connected and take away more time and space defensively to try to shut teams down a little more and get out of our zone quicker so we can play with the puck in the offensive end.”
The Mudbugs get back out on the ice on Friday as they travel up to Oklahoma to play games on October 3 and 4.
