Officials say at 8:15 p.m., Fresno Police responded to a 911 call of a hit-and-run vehicle versus pedestrian call at Hughes Avenue just south of Belmont Avenue.
Officers said when units arrived, they found a 25-year-old woman lying unconscious on the roadway. Units attempted CPR before transporting her to the hospital, but she died from her injuries.
Based on preliminary information, police say a disturbance occurred between several people inside a vehicle when they pulled over to have a discussion, when the female stepped out of the vehicle and onto the roadway, and was struck by a separate vehicle.
According to witness statements, police say the vehicle stopped, then fled following the collision.
Based on witness statements, officials say they are currently looking for a dark colored sedan, possibly with damage on the passenger side.
Police are treating this as a fatal hit-and-run, and the suspect is looking at possibly felony vehicular manslaughter charges.
