It’s called the Tom McGaughley Fire Service Award and recognizes firefighters or fire departments in Kansas for acts of bravery and heroism beyond their basic duties. The award is named after Wichita Fire Chief Tom McGaughey, who died alongside three others (Chief Fire Inspector Merle O. Wells, Firefighter Jimmy L. Austin and Firefighter Dale J. Mishler) in a 1968 fire.
