The TFD is reopening a newly renovated fire station on Friday, Aug. 8 at 2447 Southeast 29th Street. The city made key improvements to the fire station, including raising the roof height to accommodate larger apparatus, upgrading sleeping quarters and modernizing facilities.
“Station 9 represents our city’s ongoing investment in public safety and in the wellbeing of the men and women who serve our community,” said City Manager Robert Perez. “These upgrades help ensure our firefighters have the tools and space they need to protect Topeka residents more effectively.”
City of Topeka spokesman Dan Garrett said around $900,000 was spent on the renovations to help modernize the station. Up to eight members of the TFD will use the facility to sleep, train and pursue their job duties in Topeka.
“These renovations allow us to extend our service capabilities and better support the firefighters who dedicate themselves to keeping our community safe,” said Interim Fire Chief Chad Longstaff.
