“A new weight room by Gronk Fitness, an all-expense-paid trip for some of the administration to go celebrate at the SEC championship game this year. And they get an advisor for stadium renovation,” said Michael Perreira, Rural Market Manager at T-Mobile.
From football, track, and even high school graduation, the Exeter Union Athletics Stadium has seen a lot of love.
“It is a unique experience being in a town that has one high school,” said Andrew Montes, Athletic Administrator at Exeter Union High School.
Occasionally, they even lend the field to other high schools in need.
“Our district, the people in this community are [like] absolutely. We don’t need to do contracts. We don’t need to charge you for custodial. You just come because that’s what’s best for kids,” Montes said.
So, like anything, with years of wear and tear, some amenities are overdue for a makeover. If the Monarchs win the big prize, they already know how they’ll spend it.
One of the planned projects is updating their ticket booth, made up of just four wooden walls, that’s been standing for over 40 years.
Expanding the concession stand and bathrooms are also top of mind.
“We only have one set of restrooms, and so we you know use a lot of porta-potties around here. It would be so nice not to use porta-potties,” Montes exclaimed.
So far, the high school has already won $26,000 and is one of the top 25 finalists out of 2,100 applicants.
“It’s going to go a long way, not only for our current students, but our future. For our community,” said Exeter Union Principal Roger Robles.
But only the school with the most votes will win.
“That would be cool. Just knowing how much money just comes in. Because $1,000,000 is a lot of money,” said Exeter Senior Joseph Ruiz.
