Redwater ISD students nationally recognized for PreACT 8/9 scores

BOWIE COUNTY, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — Thirteen Redwater ISD (RISD) students earned national recognition for their achievements on the PreACT 8/9 exam.

The PreACT Rising Stars program recognizes students who excel on the PreACT 8/9 assessment.

The exam provides students with a preview of the ACT test experience and an opportunity to gauge their potential performance.

This also allows schools to adjust learning plans to help students strengthen weak areas.

ACT CEO Janet Godwin said, “More than anything, we want to support conversations between students and their families, educators, and guidance counselors about what’s next after high school, so students feel more secure about their postsecondary options.”

“Students who take PreACT also have the opportunity to share their information with colleges and scholarship agencies, which can increase their chances for early college recruitment and financial support.”

The PreACT Rising Stars program recognizes three levels of students. The Distinguished Scholar Award is recognition for students who score in the top 5% of test takers. Students who score in the top 6% to 15% receive the Rising Scholars Award. The Early Scholars Award is for students in the top 16% to 50% of test takers.

RISD had six Rising Scholars and seven Early Scholars.

RISD Superintendent Dr. Kelly Burns said, “We are proud of our students recognized as PreACT Rising Stars.”

“Their hard work and achievement not only showcase their talent, but also provide valuable guidance as they prepare for future learning and college success. These students are shining examples of the talent and potential in our Dragon Kingdom.”

The RISD Board of Trustees recognized students who qualified during their monthly board meeting on September 15.

Rising Scholars received a silver medal and certificate, while Early Scholars received a certificate.

Adrienne Dieball, senior vice president of measurement research and development at ACT, said, “This assessment provides a starting point to postsecondary pathways — helping educators, students, and parents alike get a better understanding of a student’s college and career readiness earlier in their academic career.”
